News & Promotions > Easter in Sicily: the best celebrations all over the island
Spring is finally here! Flowers blossoming all around, sunshine and blue skies… and lucky for you, this year Easter is going to coincide with what is probably the best time of the year to visit Sicily – late April. Temperatures are pleasant, the weather is mild and warm, and if you’re about to book your holiday, you’ll be happy to know that Easter is widely celebrated all over the island with some of the most sensational religious events in Italy and in the world. Let’s learn something about the most well-known ones.
If you’re going to spend your holiday in one of our villas in Western Sicily then you can’t miss the Processione dei Misteri (Procession of Mysteries) that takes place in Trapani on Good Friday. A heartfelt and impressive celebration that lasts almost 24 hours, starting around 2pm and ending at 2pm of Holy Saturday. Twelve beautiful, ancient sculptural groups – the “Misteri” – narrating the story of the Passion of Christ are carried throughout the elegant streets of the city centre and followed by a huge and devoted crowd.
The two main cities of Sicily’s countryside, Enna and Caltanissetta, also house two of the most striking religious Easter events in Sicily. We recommend you visit our Sicily guide: the article about the Celebrations of the Holy Week in Enna and Caltanissetta will tell you all you need to know.
Last but not least, if you’re spending your holiday in south-eastern Sicily we definitely recommend the Easter celebrations in Scicli, one of the most beautiful and romantic baroque towns of the Noto Valley: don’t miss the “Festa dell’uomo vivo” on Easter day, when a refined wooden statue of Christ (from the Eighteenth Century) is carried and celebrated by a huge number of devoted youngsters.
