News & Promotions > 60th Taormina Film Fest opens on June 14
You surely know Taormina already: one of the most glamorous destinations in Italy, famous all over the world for its ancient Greek amphitheatre and for IX April square. The town is located in Northeastern Sicily, on the coast, halfway between Catania and Messina. This has been the favourite vacation destination for a variety of celebrities and personalities: back in the day the English writer Daphne Phelps used to live here, in Casa Cuseni, where she entertained various friends including Bertrand Russell, Roald Dahl, and Tennessee Williams. These days you’d more likely run into movie stars, especially in June.
From June 14 to 21 Taormina will host the Taormina Film Fest, the oldest film festival in Europe, and one of the most important cinema related events in Italy. The chosen location as usual will be the fascinating Ancient Theatre, built in the seventh century BC, whose historic stage has been host to many legendary stars: Al Pacino, Martin Scorsese, Sophia Loren and Robert De Niro just to mention the latest guests.
Taormina Film Fest has come to its 60th edition and will be opened on June 14 by a 3D screening of Dreamworks’ “How to train your dragon 2”, while on June 15 the event will host the preview of Clint Eastwood’s “Jersey Boys”. The Ancient Theatre will provide a unique setting to all the screenings, turning the event in something unforgettable for everyone who’ll be attending.
