Rent a villa in Sicily and discover the most wonderful side of the island.

A charming country resort in an ancient monastery built in 1451, with a typical farmhouse with restaurant and beautiful amber façades in local stone: this is Borgo Barocco, a wonderful accommodation located within an idyllic scenery among verdant Mediterranean shrub and ancient olive groves. This ancient manor house was perfectly restored, and its ancient beautiful peculiar traits have been carefully brought back to life; its 12 rooms (doubles and triples) are all tastefully designed, with antique details and top-quality contemporary furniture. Guests share the elegant breakfast and tea room, together with the pleasant relaxing lounge.

The house is surrounded by a peaceful, lush 19-hectare estate, with plenty of orchards, Mediterranean gardens, carob trees as well as a swimming pool with solarium: relax is everything here, and you’ll have plenty of chances to chill out and enjoy the unique and quiet atmosphere all around.

The top-quality restaurant of Borgo Barocco is wisely run by David: his cooking philosophy says that you can learn how to cook, but the creativity that allows a true chef to choose the right spice or herb, the right mix of ingredients that make a recipe unique is innate. David learned it from his mother and granmother, who cooks an absolutely amazing “caponata“. So first of all, it’s a matter of taste… but genuine ingredients come right after: the chef and its staff do not accept any compromise when it comes to fresh and top-quality ingredients, often directly bought from local producers nearby – cheese, salami – or fishermen. Seasonal vegetables come from Mr Cascino’s fields nearby, and guests will find carrots, beans, tomatoes and all other products really delicious and tasty. And then, the setting: a beautiful bright space with stone-walls and ancient typical decors, from ceramics to glasses. Every course is carefully served and well-presented: colors, scents, flavors, compositions are all really one of a kind. The menu is rich and David keeps enriching it with new surprising ideas he gets from his long journeys: therefore, together with the typical Sicilian recipes, you’ll find a selection of other delicacies – such as the tasteful risotto.

This enchanting accommodation lies just 700 meters away from the "Golden door" (Porta Aurea) in Noto Antica, and just 10 kilometers from the modern city. All around, the landscape is very rich in naturalistic and archaeological sites and wonders. Noto is the pearl of Sicilian Baroque, as it was entirely rebuilt after the terrible earthquake that stroke the whole South-Eastern Sicily in 1693. The former city was set on a high plane that had been inhabited since Pre-history: various necropolis have been found in the surrounding area. The city was also a Greek colony, and its position was particularly protected (it was located between two narrow gorges); ancient portals and walls can still be observed nowadays. Porta Aurea leads tourists into the ruins of the ancient town. The Mount where Noto Antica was built, Mount Alveria, is an invaluable naturalistic and archaeological site nowadays: evidences show the presence of Greeks, Jewish, Byzantines, Arabians, Normans and more. Mount Alveria and the whole area around has been listed among the UNESCO World Heritage sites: the baroque cities of Scicli and Modica are set on a large plateau right in the middle of two stunning canyons, and the picturesque village of Marzamemi is a famous seaside resort. Archaeology and nature lovers can't miss the Cava Grande Nature Reserve, as well as the Eloro valley with its archaeological sites, and the Vendicari Nature Reserve with its idyllic beaches and rare flora and fauna.
