The coastal area of Menfi, which borders on the Mediterranean Sea, offers over six miles of fine, sandy beaches. It is considered one of the most beautiful and family-friendly beaches in Sicily. A trip to discover the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, located in the province of the same name (Agrigento), is highly recommended. Once conquered by the Romans, the Goths, the Byzantines, the Arabs and the Normans, the Valley of the Temples has remained a main attraction and a highlight for thousands of tourists each year.

Selinunte is an extensive excavation area in a unique place and is considered one of the most important archeological sites in all of Italy. Its name comes from the word selinon, a type of wild celery which once grew densely on the banks of the two rivers around the city. Selinunte was founded in the 7th century AD by colonists from the city of Megara Hyblaea and is the only Greek city where its original residential district has been mostly preserved. Furthermore, its majestic ruins testify to the size and importance that this colony once obtained. The archaeological dig at Selinunte stretches out over one square mile; its borders, however, do not align with those of the ancient city itself, which was much larger. Based on Selinunte’s temples, archaeologists have been able to trace the development of Greek architecture in Sicily. However, it is still not possible today to clearly identify which gods were worshipped there, and therefore each temple has been assigned a letter of the alphabet.
Segesta, another landmark in the vicinity of the villa, is around nine miles away from the Castellammare del Golfo and approximately 19 miles east of Trapani. The ruins of this ancient city, an uninhabited landscape filled with lush vegetation, are surely considered some of the loveliest in all of Sicily. Only a Doric temple and a theater have been preserved in a spectacular state, witnesses of a city whose roots can be found in the 7th century BC, just like Erice. In contrast to Erice, however, the ancient city of Segesta was eventually Hellenized, and a large portion of its last days was spent in border conflicts with Selinunte. Its Doric temple stems from a time of fruitful confederations with Athens; however, it was never completed. Construction of the temple was definitively interrupted and halted upon the outbreak of a new conflict with Selinunte in the year 416.
